George began his music career at a very early age, picking up drums and percussion from his musical family. He has played with various different types of groups ranging from rock bands, mallet quartets, percussion ensembles, orchestras, and many more.
Alongside studying music with his father Dr. George Tantchev, George has studied with other well known percussionists like Cynthia Yeh, David Herbert, Eric Millstein, Michael Green, Ian Ding, and Michael Kozakis. He has also performed in masterclasses for soloists such as Dame Evelyn Glennie and Colin Currie.
George has played with groups such as the Chicago Civic Orchestra, Chicago Composers Orchestra, Aspen Festival Orchestra (during part of his time at the Aspen Music Festival), and various music groups around Chicago.
His various performance experience shows in his compositional technique and works. George has written pieces for all kinds of projects/styles and instruments including works for solo percussion, solo piano, electronic instruments, orchestra, and genres such as Pop, Electronic, Orchestral, Synthwave, Ambience, Horror, Lo-Fi, and many others.
George is now a freelance percussionist, composer, and teacher in the Chicagoland area. He graduated from DePaul University in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Percussion Performance.
